SESSION DESCRIPTIONS

Session I

Introduction to Two Holistic Modalities: Reiki and Aromatherapy and Their Benefits

Presenter: Denise Rafkind-Moyano

Reiki is a Japanese form of energy healing. A safe gentle hands-on healing technique that uses “universal life-force energy”. The healing energy is transferred through the palms of the practitioner to the patient in order to encourage emotional, physical, psychological and spiritual healing.

Aromatherapy has been defined as the therapeutic use of essential oils from plants for the improvement of physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. We will discuss some safety practices and talk about a few helpful, common essential oils. You will have the opportunity to smell some custom blends and ask questions.

Session II

Expressing Emotion Through Artwork

Presenter: Taylor LaPorta

Using the work of Liz Ehrlichman as inspiration, students will be guided to paint the outline of one of her paintings. Students will be instructed on how to make artistic choices through color, texture, and line to express different emotions through the scene.

Session III

A Time for You: Self-Care for Wellness

Presenter: Jennifer Scott Miceli, PhD

This Ayurvedic-centered session guides participants to engage in relaxing, joyous and ancient wellness practices suited for their unique dosha (vatta, pitta, or kapha) including pranayama breathing techniques, meditation, chanting, movement to music, and meal planning.

Session IV

The Power of Percussion

Presenter: Kaitlyn Heal

In this hands-on session, participants will be given the opportunity to explore how playing percussion instruments can elevate mood. Drumming has been proven to be a cathartic outlet for many. Percussion has historical connections with our emotional experiences.

Participants will use auxiliary percussion instruments, bucket drums, body percussion and more! Drumsticks will have softened tips so that the sound of the drum is not too loud.

Session V

Sound Bath and Gentle Yoga for Relaxation

Presenters:  Andrea Gonnella and Samantha Harris

A sound bath is a sound or combination of therapeutic sounds that create an immersive listening experience born out of vibrations and musical instruments. Participants will be treated to a relaxing, candle-lit experience with restorative sounds, gentle yoga poses and meditation to still the mind. Participants can also try out instruments at the end since the process of playing them can also be enjoyable. Participants should wear comfortable clothes and could bring an eye-mask or pillow/blanket.

PRESENTER BIOS

Denise Rafkind-Moyano

Reiki Master Practitioner & Certified Aromatherapist

After losing both her parents 4 months apart, Denise needed to find ways to help with grief and deal with the tremendous and unexpected losses. That was how her holistic journey began. In addition, she completed a Crystal Certification Program and does Chakra Clearings. A few years ago, Denise opened her own business Monarch Nature and is currently studying Sound Healing. Prior to that life change, her career was working in the Advertising industry as a Graphic Designer and Photographer for over 25 years. Now, Denise’s focus and passion is to help people feel well, be happy and balanced and to assist others while they deal with life’s issues and illnesses that may arise. Denise hopes to make a small difference in supporting people’s body, mind and soul.
